Last week we didn’t spare anything and went straight into action.
We organised a little ski touring trip to our absolute favourite in both winter and summer Bulgaria – Pirin mountain.
Pirin, named after a Thracian god, is the second highest in Bulgaria at 2914m, coming short by only 11 meters. It’s not only incredibly picturesque, but also presents many opportunities. Whether you choose to go skiing in Bansko (a world cup host resort), skiing off piste, or ski touring, you could always top it off with a relaxing hot springs bath. In the summer, Pirin is equally pleasant – we go to there for the nicest treks, some horse riding, and to enjoy the beautiful Pirin Golf and Country Club.
This trip took us on a nice intermediate level tour to Yavorov hut, where the party was on! The next day we went on a more advanced climb to Polezhan peak (2851m). The way to the top was quite icy – there had been a lot of wind in the past week and it had blown a lot of the snow away. That really wasn’t a problem, it just meant ‘skis off and crampons on’ and made everything a little more exciting.
